The Teaching of John the Baptist by St. Elizabeth (detail)
Wellesley College. Designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany
"Louis Comfort Tiffany was known for using multiple layers of glass on top of each other to achieve a three dimensional effect. Other features of the window show its distinctiveness from stained glass windows created before Tiffany and his competitor, John La Farge arrived on the scene in the late 19th century. The robes of St. Elizabeth actually have a texture, with rich folds in the glass itself perfectly conforming to the shape of her head. People are always amazed at how the folds in the glass exactly correspond to the folds in clothing."
